Plain-language definitions for the terms used in this documentation.
Flight terms
- Yaw
- Rotation around the vertical axis. It changes where the camera points without intentionally moving the drone toward the subject.
- Pitch
- Nose up or nose down. In Normal and Sport, the right stick's vertical axis commands forward/backward movement.
- Roll
- Banking left or right. In Normal and Sport, the right stick's horizontal axis moves the drone sideways.
- Throttle
- Vertical thrust. In Normal and Sport, centre is hover; in Manual, centre is mid-thrust.
- Mode 2
- The control layout used by FPV Map: throttle and yaw on the left stick, pitch and roll on the right.
- Acro / Manual
- A mode where stick input commands body rates and the attitude is not self-levelling. FPV Map calls it Manual (M).
- FPV
- First-person view: flying through a camera image rather than watching the aircraft from outside.
- Gimbal
- The stabilised camera mount. In FPV Map the camera stays horizon-level while yaw follows the drone.
- HUD / OSD
- Heads-up display / on-screen display. The Avata-style telemetry overlay.
- RTH
- Return to home. In FPV Map, the H button.
Cinematic terms
- Establishing shot
- A wide shot that introduces a place and its scale before the story narrows.
- B-roll
- Supporting footage used under narration or between story beats.
- Reveal
- A shot that hides the subject, then uncovers it.
- Orbit
- Moving around a subject while keeping it framed.
- Parallax
- The difference in apparent movement between near and far objects as the camera moves.
- Keyframe
- A stored camera pose used by an animation tool to interpolate movement. FPV Map does not have a keyframe timeline.
- Previsualization
- Planning a shot in a virtual environment before the real shoot.
- Shot brief
- A one-page description of a shot: subject, start/end frames, movement, pace, risks.
- Shot list
- An ordered set of shots for a sequence.

About the screenshots
Every screenshot and demo in this documentation was captured in FPV Map over the Transamerica Pyramid and the Financial District, San Francisco.
FPV Map is a simulator. It never sends commands to an aircraft, and virtual rehearsal is not a substitute for legal checks, a site survey or safe piloting.
